Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government-backed small-savings scheme for a girl child. The account can be opened before she turns 10, at a post office or bank. You deposit for the first 15 years; the account keeps earning interest and matures 21 years after opening. Deposits are ₹250 to ₹1.5 lakh per year.
This calculator assumes the same deposit at the start of each year for 15 years, compounded yearly at the rate you enter until year 21 — the standard estimation method. The actual rate is declared by the government every quarter, so your final amount will vary as rates change.
Why parents love SSY
It is one of the highest-interest government schemes, fully tax-free under Section 80C (EEE — deposit, interest and maturity all tax-exempt), and the sovereign guarantee means zero default risk. The trade-off is the long lock-in.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this SSY calculator free?
- Yes — 100% free, no sign-up, runs entirely in your browser.
- Is the interest rate fixed for 21 years?
- No. The government revises the SSY rate every quarter. This calculator applies one rate for the whole period, so treat the result as an estimate.
- Can I withdraw before 21 years?
- Partial withdrawal (up to 50%) is allowed for the girl's higher education after she turns 18, and the account can be closed on her marriage after 18. Otherwise it runs to maturity.
